My harvest yard sign went the way of Halloween with a bug theme.  It's fun and creepy and actually a little bit true because Fall always seems to be high spider season in our house.

DIY Outdoor Toy Storage Bin

*This post is sponsored by Simpson Strong-Tie and includes affiliate links.

Please tell me I'm not the only one with a messy yard full of toys strewn about?  Well that's about to change because I just built this outdoor toy storage bin with plenty of space for all the toys.  No more excuses now all the toys have a home and it's easy access for play.

I partnered with Simpson Strong-Tie to make this outdoor toy storage bin a cinch to construct.  By using their workbench and shelving kit I was able to build the frame portion with no extra hardware or connectors.

I put together plans for this project and they are posted over on the DIY Done Right site here.

Start with a 2x4 frame, add cleats and hardware cloth, then a base and bit of interior trim to finish it off.  Do you have toys that need to be corraled?  Perhaps this outdoor toy storage bin might just be the answer.

Backyard Tools Making Work Easy

backyard tools making chores easy

Fall is nearly upon us and it's time to once again tackle those backyard chores before the weather turns.  Today I'm sharing three backyard tools that make those outdoor chores easy.  I would consider these tools 'must haves' in your tool arsenol, if you don't have them already be sure to add them to your list.

Backyard Chore #1: Trimming dead branches

For this task I used a Makita cordless reciprocating saw with a 9" Diablo pruning blade.  Look at the results in the after shot above!

DIY Multipurpose Work Table

*This post is sponsored by Kreg Tool Company / Build Something.

Ever dream up a piece of furniture for a space in your home by making a complete wish list of all the features?  This multipurpose work table is one of those dream pieces.

diy work table with free plans

In my mind it had to have a large work surface, storage below, and space for seating in order to double as extra dining space during holidays and parties and most importantly power!

This table has power hidden in the surface.  You know like a fancy conference room table except we're in my 1740 antique home:

work table with hidden power

There are many options for adding power but I went with the simple and easy route by using a power strip.  And it was all even easier because under those boards is a sheet of plywood!  No biscuits or pocket holes in the top boards, they are screwed to the plywood from below with the exception of the two pieces where the power is hiding.

Make a Difference: Pressure Washing

*This post is in partnership with Ryobi Outdoors.

pressure washing blue stone steps before after

I never even realized our exterior spaces were so dirty.  And I'm not referring to a little brown dirt, I'm talking about mold, slime, furry green moss things growing where they probably should not be growing.  I'm so embarrassed to even show these before and after comparison photos but they are proof that pressure washing makes a huge difference.

Just look at how green, slimy and moldy the left side of the step was in the photo above!!  I cannot even believe I let my home's exterior get so gross.  Today I'm sharing how I made a massive difference to our exterior spaces using a pressure washer.

Let's start on the lower level exterior wall which is stucco.  Using the foam blaster attachment (which also would be great for washing your car) I pressure washed the stucco.

DIY Plant Stand with Free Plans

diy plant stand

A little housewarming gift for my sister I whipped up this plant stand super fast and I'm sharing the tutorial so you can make one too!

For reference this pot is 12" diameter at the upper most portion and 8" diameter at the base.  The pot itself is 9 1/2" tall so you can make adjustments as needed based on your pot size.

I finished this plant stand in gloss white which is a nice contrast against wood floors and grey planter.  You can finish however you like - stain, paint, maybe a fun color or dip the legs - the possibilities are endless.

This is one solid based with 4x4 legs and supports then I used the Outdoor Accents brackets to connect the pieces.  Simple and strong, you should check out all the details here.

The top portion is actually deck boards.  I used a jigsaw to cut out the circle shape but a router would work too.

This round outdoor dining table easily seats 7 adults with plenty of elbow room.

DIY Chalkboard Wall Calendar

*This post is sponsored by DecoArt.

diy chalkboard wall calendar

It's that time of year - back to school - and I secretly happen to love back to school for so many reasons: structure, schedule and hooray for learning!  With that I decided we needed a large chalkboard wall calendar so my kids can see exactly what's happening in the upcoming days.

large chalkboard wall calendar

I used DecoArt Americana Clear Chalkboard Coating over the paint colors to make this fun, colorful chalkboard wall calendar.

You can make any painted surface into a chalkboard using this coating it's that simple.  I will say that darker painted surfaces are going to work better because you will be able to see the chalk.  However chalk does come in a huge variety of colors so if you want to mix it up an go with a light paint color, add the chalkboard coating and then use dark chalks I say go for it!

I will share the complete tutorial down below to make this chalkboard wall calendar.
